July 25, 2008

Sukkur - The Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General Karachi, Karen Waltz-Davis, underlined the need for "producing sound professional managers who understand the latest global trends to make Pakistan competitive in the business market" while visiting the Institute of Business Administration here today.

"The new facility of video conferencing being offered at the Institute will help link Sukkur IBA with the rest of the business education centers globally," Ms. Waltz-Davis said. "Video conferencing with speakers from the United States would allow sharing experience and ideas between the two countries."

The American diplomat met with Director Nisar Siddiqui, who briefed her about the increased registration of students and the academic strength of the faculty and the institute.

During an earlier visit to Khairpur, Ms. Waltz-Davis met with the Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, Dr. Nilofer Shaikh. Dr. Shaikh apprised the American diplomat about ongoing academic programs and efforts to establish linkages with leading universities in the United States.

Ms. Waltz-Davis encouraged the faculty members to explore opportunities for studying in the United States under the Fulbright scholarship program.

She also presented certificates to participants in a journalism workshop at the university's Mass Communication Department.  The workshop was funded by the U.S. Department of State to provide training to rural journalists in investigative reporting.
