Karachi, June 25, 2009 – PAO Tracy Brown delivered a presentation on Study and Living in USA to the students and faculty of S.M. Law College Karachi.

On Thursday, June 25, BPAO visited a key Karachi institution, the Sindh Muslim Law College, and met with the principal Dr. Khurshid Hashmi and senior faculty members. Later, she toured the historic facility and rounded up the visit with a PowerPoint presentation on "Education Opportunities in the U.S." A group of twenty interested students and faculty members listened to the talk that explained campus life in the U.S., how to go about choosing an educational institution, financial aid possibilities, and social and cultural interaction opportunities in and beyond the campus. The questions and answer session provided ample space for comments, observations and queries from the audience. BPAO corrected the impression of a student that after 9/11 fewer students are issued visas with statistics belying that claim. Another interesting question from a faculty member was whether there was an age bar on pursuing further studies in the U.S. The answer was a clear no, there was not. Former federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and a senior faculty member of the law college, Barrister Shahida Jamil and Board of Trustee member, Barrister Chaudhry Jamil appreciated PAS reestablishing contacts with Law College after 11 years of hiatus.

The purpose of the lecture was to promote U.S. higher education in Pakistan, provide accurate and timely information, and promote U.S. institutions to Pakistani students, and to improve the perception that the U.S. is a Pakistani-friendly destination for higher education. The lecture also dispelled any misinterpretations about U.S. visa issuance procedures and encouraged the students to consider receiving quality higher education in the U.S.A.
