Applying in Karachi

“Effective November 5, 2009, U.S. Consulate Karachi will provide nonimmigrant visa services to facilitate the travel of the businessman and women from Karachi:

• Appointments should be made through the American Express Travel Office in Karachi.
  
  
• Businessmen/women who are residents of or based in Karachi can apply for business visas at the U.S. Consulate in Karachi.  Businessmen/women from outside the greater Karachi metropolitan area (but within Sindh and Balochistan) may be interviewed in Karachi only if they apply through the American Express Karachi Office.  Alternatively, they may continue to be interviewed in Islamabad.  We encourage travelers to apply at least three months prior to their intended date of travel.
  
  
• When seeking an appointment, applicants must provide supporting documentation, e.g. a letter, an e-mail or any other confirmation that he/she is traveling primarily for business purposes.
  
  
• Only the businessman/woman can apply for a visa in Karachi; currently family members accompanying a businessman/woman will not be able to apply in Karachi.  Once the Consulate moves into its new facility in 2010, full nonimmigrant visa services will be available at the Consulate.  Until then, ALL non-Business visa applicants must continue to apply at the American Embassy in Islamabad. • Applicants scheduled for an interview in Karachi will be able to contact American Express to re-schedule their appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.  Once the interview has taken place, however, the case cannot be transferred between the Embassy and the Consulate.
